in early October 2023, the National Book Awards announced their finalists! Narrowed down from the longlist, and covering 5 categories, these awards are one of the most highly anticipated in literature each year!

This year, the 5 titles that are finalists for the National Book Award in Young People’s Literature are:

  • Gather by Kenneth M. Chow
  • Huda F Cares? by Huda Fahmy
  • BIG by Vashti Harrison
  • The Lost Year: A Survival Story of the Ukrainian Famine by Katherine Marsh
  • A First Time for Everything by Dan Santat

Per the NBA press release, 348 books were submitted by publishers for consideration in Young People’s Literature! The winners of the 2023 National Book Awards will be announced on Wednesday, November 15th.
