In graphic novel format, the author and illustrator cleverly weave facts about the New York subway with a story about making new friends. Detailed illustrations packed with people and buildings convey the frenetic pace and scale of the city.
A thunderstorm threatens overhead and the words from the title pulse through the story, as a multi-cultural crowd takes shelter in the subway. Winsome gouache and pencil caricatures and collage elements show a cozy community forming around pizza, music, dogs, and a dazzling surprise.
