Meeting Notes for October

Meeting Notes for October 18:

Positive Comments:
  • This book integrates both “kid” humor and adult humor.
  • The child’s imagination is so thorough that the beloved doll squash reproduces for the next season after she plants its seeds.
  • The child has empathy for the squash,  worrying about it getting cold outside during the winter.
Observations:
  • One child liked the book enough to get a squash while two other readers were unimpressed.
Concerns:
  • One wonders whether this story subtly emphasizes that the little girl be like mommy and reproduce.
